• Right lateral = right side is down (dependent),

left side is up

• Left lateral = left side is down (dependent),

right side is up

Lateral • A minimum of 2 people are needed to move
the patient into the lateral position.

Positioning

• Pressure points to be aware of when the

patient is in the lateral position

➢downside ear, acromion process,

olecranon, ribs, iliac crest, greater

trochanter, medial and lateral condyles

and medial and lateral malleoli. 7
