Policies and Procedures on Infection Control

• Laboratory items that become contaminated but do not normally contact the
patient examples include burs, polishing points, rag wheels, articulators, case
pans, and lathes should be cleaned and sterilized or disinfected according to
manufacturers’ instructions
• If manufacturer instructions not available, clean and heat-sterilize heat-tolerant
items and clean and disinfect other items with at least an intermediate level
disinfectant
