Post-operative Care
• Begin exercise early after surgery to facilitate lung ventilation. Show how to comfort the
chest to reduce pain.
• Acute complications such as cyanosis, dyspnoea, and acute chest pain - these are
indications of atelectasis and should be reported immediately.
• Increased body temperature / increased white cell count - infection
• Pale and increased pulse - internal bleeding.
• Assess dressing for fresh bleeding.
