Phan Phum Dokmai
Floral Arrangement in Lotus Shape on Pedestal Tray
Phan phum dokmai is a Thai flower composition in lotus shape set on a phan
or pedestal tray, collectively known as phan phum. Even though the phan phum
dokmai can be made from different types of flowers, but traditionally the most
common is globe amaranth. A phan phum dokmai of globe amaranths is made by
placing a small column of clay at the center of a pedestal tray. Globe amaranths
with salak palm slivers pierced at the bottoms are then pinned into the clay
column, forming the desired shape as work progresses. These phan phum dokmai
are commonly used as offerings placed on either side of a Buddha image.
