คำหนึ่งคำบางครั้งเขียนเหมือนกันแตมีความหมายตางกัน (Homonym) และอาจจะออกเสียง


ตางกันดวย เชน คำวา ‘lead’หากคำนี้วางอยูในตำแหนงตางๆภายในประโยคแตกตางกันไป นั่น
หมายความวา lexical category และ meaning ก็ยอมไมเหมือนกันดวย
