Snake Usually Found

Rattlesnake ■ Across the United States

■ Mountains, prairies, deserts and beaches
■ Sunning themselves near logs, boulders or in
open areas

Copperhead ■ Eastern United States, extending as far west
as Texas

■ Forests, rocky areas and near sources of water
like swamps and rivers

Cottonmouth (water moccasin) ■ Southeastern United States

■ Frequently found in and around water (wetland
areas, rivers and lakes)

Coral snake ■ Southern United States

■ Wooded, sandy or marshy areas

■ Tend to hide in leaf piles and burrow into the
ground
