PESD_PAMU_20200812_0727_(ongoing): Three-dimensional turbulence
               characteristics over a bimodal gravel-bed

                PESD_PAMU_20200812_0727_(ongoing)
                1. Title of the Project:

                Three-dimensional turbulence characteristics over a bimodal gravel-bed
                2. Name of Proposing Scientists:
                Sankar Sarkar
                3. Brief objectives and justification:

To carry out a detailed experimental study of turbulent flow over a bimodal unworked and
                water-worked gravel-bed.

Double-averaged turbulence will be studied for mobile bed condition during the transition of
the bed from unworked to water-worked state.
To compare the occurrence of bursting events under initial and deformed water-worked bed
conditions. This makes it possible to identify any changes in flow and turbulent events due
                to bed conditions,
To gain some insight into the coupling between flow turbulence and water-worked bed.

Octant analysis based structural relations for three-dimensional turbulent flow over the bed.

                4. Name of Others Scientists associated with their affiliation:

                5. Date of Commencement:
                01/04/2019

                6. Expected date of Completion:
                31/03/2022
                7. Interim report(max 500 words) including complete list of publications and patents
based on the work from the project:
So far, water-unworked gravel bed experiments were completed and the captured data were
analyzed and they look quite promising. However, to present the results by comparing them
with water-worked bed, more number of experiments should be conducted.
Initially it was assumed that the project will be completed by March 2021. However, due to
the outbreak of Covid-19 and lockdown, we could not perform remaining experiments. In
addition due to Apmhan Cyclone, some damages occurred in the laboratory and the
renovation is required that will lead to further delaying. We therefore require an extension of
one year for the project be completed successfully.
