KNX TUTOR SEMINAR
3 Different phases in the KNX certification process
3.1 Introduction
Two categories of KNX products are distinguished:
Main certificate: KNX product developed by a KNX member company who has applied
to have his product certified by KNX Association.
Derived certificate: KNX product that is bought by a KNX member company from the
main product developer (see above) and which is then sold under its own brand
name.
The main philosophy behind the KNX certification process lies in the fact that – when a
part or an entire product has shown compliance to the specifications - it is not retested
when it is resubmitted to registration / certification by the same or another KNX member
company. The registration / certification is then reduced to a mere administrative act.
The underneath described certification process, applicable for ‘main certificates’, is
in principle divided into five phases:
1. Introductory Phase
2. Registration Phase
3. Testing Phase
4. Certification Phase
5. Surveillance Phase
