1.3.3.3 Retarders

• Some of materials used to retard the set of a

concrete mixture are tartaric acid, sugar, salt,

lignin and borax. These material should be

added to the mixing water.

• For example an addition of 0.2% of sugar by

weight of cement will retard setting time

down to 3 days or more.
