The interactive teaching style BenchWorx offers has been well-
received by participants, parents, local schools and communities.
During each class, students learn from trained instructors dif-
ferent characteristics of wood, safe use of basic tools and projects
driven by their imaginations. Creative problem solving is an inte-
gral part of the BenchWorx experience. The students make one-of-
a-kind projects that they are proud of and cannot wait to show off to
their friends and family.
Using Facebook as their primary marketing channel, BenchWorx
has ignited a movement that teaches and challenges young students to
think outside of technology and work with their hands.
Jeff’s own passion for working with his hands began as a
child, when he learned from his father, who was an electrician and
a carpenter. Then in high school, Jeff’s shop teacher introduced him
to woodworking. His teacher instilled in him a love of working with
wood and with his hands using hand tools.
After high school, Jeff worked for a home construction con-
tractor and rented space for his sideline business of furniture repair
and building small items. Following the sale of a wall unit of cabi-
nets and bookshelves, Schrock Custom Woodworking became Jeff’s
full-time job. For more than 30 years, Schrock Custom Woodwork-
ing specialized in kitchen and bath cabinetry as well as custom
commercial casework.
In the past year, Schrock Custom Woodworking has ventured
down a new path, and we are excited to see where this path will lead
in the next ten years. By introducing a new trade to young students,
Jeff Schrock is shaping the future of woodwork in a unique way.
“My long term goal is seeing this country change its education
process and philosophy to promote the trades as a viable option for a
life and career,” Jeff confesses. “I want to meet like-minded individu-
als that see the potential in our youth.”
