LOCAL HISTORY
Knowing our own history is essential in the making of who
we are. This applies to each person, community, state,
country and collectively the world.
Chippewa River District Library has a collection of books on local history, access to An-
cestry Library Edition and MyHeritage Library Edition, and monthly help for genealogy
searches with the assistance of volunteers from the Genealogical Society of Isabella
County. Even Clarke Historical Library can offer assistance in your search for your his-
tory.

Local History Collection at Chippewa River District Library
The library has a collection of books about Isabella County, the city of Mount Pleasant,
Central Michigan University and many others on life, commerce and notable people from
our local history.
Ancestry Library Edition and MyHeritage Library Edition (free within any CRDL branch)
Create an account, that can be saved, to search for your ancestors through Ancestry or
MyHeritage. These online services can deliver billions of records in census data, vital re-
cords, directories, photos, and more.
Genealogical Society of Isabella County
The Genealogical Society of Isabella County is a local organization that not only works
to preserve Isabella County history, but assists others in finding their history in Isabella
County.
Clarke Historical Library
Clarke Historical Library is a part of Central Michigan University. They have preserved
many historical newspapers and digitized them for viewing, they also house CMU’s his-
torical archives, and also have access to material, reference and research resources.
