Pupil Care and Wellbeing
Equality
At Willowbrook Primary School we are committed to
ensuring equality of education and opportunity for
all. We recognise and celebrate the fact that British
and Welsh society is made up of people from diverse
backgrounds and life experiences. It is important
that all pupils are prepared to live in such a society.
Fairness and equality are embedded at the heart of
our school community.
Additional Learning Needs
We are committed to providing for children who
have additional learning needs and to developing
cultures, policies and practices which are inclusive.
We seek to remove barriers to learning and
participation. This means that every child at
Willowbrook Primary School is treated as an
individual and as such is entitled to a broad,
balanced and differentiated curriculum. We have in
place systems and procedures to identify barriers to
learning and participation, and to provide for
children throughout the learning spectrum.
Our Additional Learning Needs Coordinator plans
provision and allocates resources including support
staff. The school is committed to compliance with
the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice
(2001) and the Equalities Act 2010.
Looked After Children in Education (LACE)
We support children who are looked after with all
aspects of their education, monitor their
achievements and assist them in overcoming barriers
to success, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
We liaise closely with a range of agencies to support
the child and ensure that a high quality personal
education plan (PEP) is put in place and reviewed
regularly.
More Able and Talented (MAT)
At Willowbrook, when identifying able and talented
pupils, we make use of data including end of phase
assessments, National Reading and Numeracy Test
results and a wide range of qualitative data, including
teacher assessment, pupil observation and
examination of pupils’ work.

The school makes sure the identification process
is rigorous, transparent and fair. The names of
pupils identified as More Able, and/or Talented in
our school will be recorded on our More Able
and Talented lists so that their progress can be
specifically tracked. Teachers set rigorous targets
for all our learners and we ensure that lessons
provide enough challenge to meet the needs of
all pupil groups. Talented pupils have
opportunities to develop their sporting, creative,
technological and leadership skills in lessons, our
enriched curriculum and in pupil led sessions
such as the ICT Genius Bar where talented pupils
help other learners develop their knowledge
and skills.
Home and School Working in Partnership
We believe that an effective partnership
between home and school is essential if children
are to achieve their full potential. We will keep
you well informed about your child’s progress
and we value your interest and support. Parents
receive regular newsletters to help ensure that
they always know about school events and
activities. In recognition of our work with and
support of our families, the school was recently
awarded Investors in Families status.
Wrap Around Care / After-School Club
This is a thriving, happy and successful club run
within the school from 3-6pm each day. The club
is located in the school hall, allowing a large area
for the children to play freely and is staffed by
friendly, experienced and qualified staff, who
provide a wide range of fun activities. Activities
that are on offer include making and creating,
sports activities and outdoor play.
Breakfast Club
The school runs a free Breakfast Club offering a
healthy start to the day for all of our pupils.
