Hi Fans,
Play with Here are my “SUMMER SAFETY TIPS
me? FOR DOGS” just in time ‘cause the
weather is HEATING up:)
Follow my advice for a safe and happy
Summer for you and your bestie….
Malinka English Staffy x 2yrs 12kgs Female • Pets need lots of WATER— Every pet MUST have
Sponsor: “A 4ever home soon!” Susan Cassidy access to lots of clean, cool water in the hot months. During
Summer your dog will drink more water than usual so it is a
Anna from Killarney Heights has donated good idea to have more than one container/bucket of water in
some cat and dog food from her pocket case one is knocked over. A great way to keep your
money - well done Anna! doggie cool is to put ice cubes in his water ( I like to crunch up
ice cubes in my mouth) or to give him a splash with the hose.
• Dogs NEED shade— If your dog is left outside during the day
he will need lots of shade areas/trees. If your yard is all
concrete he will need access to a veranda. Kid’s wading pools
make a great area for your pet to cool off in! - I love mine!
• NEVER, ever leave your dog in a locked car— Even with
the window down. Cars heat up really quickly and dogs can
die in a short time from heat exhaustion. HEATSTROKE is an
emergency! If your dog has become heat stressed cover with
a cool, wet towel. He needs to go to the vet — NOW!!!
• NEVER walk your dog on a hot day! Dogs look forward to
exercise but make sure that you do it either very early in the
morning or wait until the sun goes down. Also if you feel the
heat from the concrete footpaths and roads on a hot day
imagine how hot it is on the unprotected pads of your dog’s
feet! Young and older dogs feel the heat more. Also over-
weight dogs, short nosed dogs like Pugs, Boxers etc, dogs
with thick dark coats, dehydrated dogs and sick dogs!
• Doggies do get SUNBURNT too! Can you believe it, they do!
White or light coloured dogs need sunscreen (available from
pet supply stores or from your vet ) on their nose and the tips
of their ears as they can easily sunburn and sunburn hurts.
• Pools can be DANGEROUS for dogs— NEVER leave your
doggie unsupervised in/near a pool. What if he falls in and
can’t get out? Or he can’t swim? Keep the pool gate closed:)
Looking for dog friendly beaches? Go to www.doggo.com.au for
lists/area maps. This coming school holidays make sure you plan
some outings for your doggie. Summer is a great time and it can
be enjoyed not only by you but by your bestie too! C/U Chips
