      • IN THE SPOTLIGHT FEATURING BOWIE Writer: ANNE DoggieRescue Volunteer

A typical walk with Bowie “In loving memory of Lucky!” Kevin Lynch

You hear him first, like a steam engine approaching as the
kennel hand is enthusiastically dragged behind as he exits
full pelt. His greeting is super friendly. And when he
realises his walk will begin with a car ride he heads full-pelt
for the open car door, leaping with surprising agility straight
into the back seat. Then turns and there it is, the familiar
      goofy grin.

He sits patiently as you fasten him in. Then rolls around
riotously as you drive along. Checking the long-haired rug
for any treats that a previous occupant might have mislaid.
Although impatient to be out when you arrive at the
destination, he still lies patiently as you remove the tether,
providing copious sloppy kisses as he waits, then
disembarks with perhaps a little less elegance. After that,
it’s game on. He loves water based zoomies, or tummy
tobogganing down grassy slopes, sometimes with a barrel
      roll thrown in!

Bowie, who is aged approximately two, is a jaunty white
and brindle Bulldog/Staffie cross. Everything about him
reflects his cheeky, good nature. He doesn’t react to cars,
and is generally okay with dogs, unless they are in his
face. But he definitely prefers female companions.
He can pull, and he’s a strong boy. You can tell by his
chunky stature. But he is also happy to walk on a loose
lead, obeying instructions, and just enjoying the chase
after tempting smells. He also loves to lie beside you on
the grass snuggling, or climbing onto your lap snuggling
affectionately. Sometimes he is just settled. So happy.

“ You hear the word goofball a lot when it comes to dogs like Staffies and Bowie is certainly a card carrying
member of the goofball society. But he is also super-sweet, whip smart, and so loving and affectionate.
                                                                             ”
