HURRICANE MATTHEW
A storm-tracking satellite captured this image
of Hurricane Matthew in early October 2016,
soon after it intensified into a Category 5
hurricane. The eye of the storm is visible at
the center of the spiral of towering rain clouds.
On October 4, the hurricane moved north
across the island of Haiti, causing massive
damage and up to 1,600 deaths before
wreaking havoc in the southeastern US.
