Editorial
Well despite the ramshackle sailing year that 2020 became Southerly
Owners have managed to provide some really interesting and informative
articles for this bumper edition of our magazine. Who would have thought
that as the sailing season started in early March this year we would be so
curtailed in enjoying our sailing activities. However many of us have
managed some sort of on water activity this year and you will be pleased to
read the adventures of those who cruised the West Country, took a
sabbatical in the mud on the Humber, and enjoyed as much of the Baltic as
time allowed. Nick and I were very lucky to have some of our best West
Country cruising this year with some peaceful days on the Rivers Helford,
Fowey and Yealm, exciting weather patterns across Lyme Bay and a frisky
sail or two as we returned to the Solent. And the dolphins….. so many pods
and individual porpoise enjoying the waters….made us so feel glad to be
alive.
And so looking forward to 2021, Nigel and Julian both allude to the impact
of Brexit and I must admit I don’t see an easy bureaucratic-free option for
those of us wishing to venture to Europe in the next few years. So perhaps
2021 will bring us further challenges but it may also bring us many more
opportunities. Maybe supporting our local yacht and sailing clubs whilst
they weather the storms of further shut-downs, lock-downs, tiers and
limitations will be easier. Hopefully with some curbs on the vicious effects
of this virus on the horizon we may again become the social animals we
really are.
Whatever 2021 brings we wish you all the very best and we would love you
to share your adventures, maintenance inspirations and antics abroad for
our next edition.
