An eye in the sky
Solution:
I purchased a V-Multi Tracker from Vodafone for £22.50, and £2 per month
sim contract.
This tiny watch sized device is powered from a USB socket. It uses a mobile
signal to respond to a request from you (via an app on your phone) to ask
where it is. Your phone then overlays its position on a map. Usually it gives
an approximate location first (often up to a mile out) before using triangu-
lation to come up with a very accurate position (usually less than 10 me-
ters, after a couple of minutes). It also tells you the percentage left on its
internal battery. Now the battery only lasts a day or so, so it needs power
daily. So this presented the next challenge:
2) Powering remote devices from our onboard supply without risking
power drain.
Solution:
This was relatively easy. I bought a
12V digital time switch from Low-
energie for £12
I already have a ‘last resort’ quite
high electric bilge pump with float
switch wired directly to the batter-
ies, mounted just under the prop
