An eye in the sky




               Solution:
         I purchased a V-Multi Tracker from Vodafone for £22.50, and £2 per month
         sim contract.

















         This tiny watch sized device is powered from a USB socket. It uses a mobile
         signal to respond to a request from you (via an app on your phone) to ask
         where it is. Your phone then overlays its position on a map. Usually it gives
         an approximate location first (often up to a mile out) before using triangu-
         lation to come up with a very accurate position (usually less than 10 me-
         ters, after a couple of minutes). It also tells you the percentage left on its
         internal battery. Now the battery only lasts a day or so, so it needs power
         daily. So this presented the next challenge:
               2) Powering remote devices from our onboard supply without risking
         power drain.
         Solution:

         This  was  relatively  easy. I  bought  a
         12V  digital  time  switch  from  Low-
         energie for £12

         I  already  have  a  ‘last  resort’  quite
         high  electric  bilge  pump  with  float
         switch  wired  directly  to  the  batter-
         ies,  mounted  just  under  the  prop
