A RECTOR’S REFLECTIONS
JCT’s outgoing Rector, Professor Kenneth J. Hochberg,
expresses pride in the College’s academic expansion and
empowerment of religious students during his eight-year
tenure.
After eight years at the Jerusalem College of Technology
and nearly four decades in Israeli academia, the College’s
departing Rector Professor Kenneth J. Hochberg is taking
pride in a number of accomplishments — including the
significant expansion of JCT’s program offerings, as well
as the empowerment of Haredim and women.

“I am leaving with a strong sense of satisfaction,” Hochberg
said. “As I end my tenure at JCT, I am proud of the academic
and financial standing of our institution. I feel that the
level of education given to our students is at a high level,
and we are covering more fields, more degrees, and new
professions. The expansion of our nursing programs to
include Nurse Practitioner training and to offer nursing
degrees for men has been a major achievement, as have
been our new MA programs for both men and women. I also
feel that there has been noticeable improvement in the
quality of the instruction and in the quality of the research
that is performed by the members of the faculty.”

Hochberg’s storied academic career includes 30 years
at Bar-Ilan University, where in 1991 he was appointed
Deputy Chairman of the Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science, and then Department Chairman
(1993-1997). He subsequently served as Academic Head
of Ariel University, Dean of the Faculty of Exact Sciences
of Bar-Ilan, Academic Head of the National Program for
the Advancement of Mathematically Talented Youth, and
Academic Head of the Jerusalem Haredi College, before
joining JCT as Rector in 2014.

established and those that continue to shape the College’s
mission today,”
Regarding JCT’s academic expansion and innovation
during his tenure, Hochberg highlighted the establishment
of new MSc programs in data mining both for men and
women; an MSc in electro-optics and applied physics for
men; three MA programs in nursing; and Israel’s first MA in
health informatics. On the undergraduate level, he pointed
out new nursing programs, specializations in the business
programs, and an innovative pharmacy track based on a
new cooperation with Hebrew University.
JCT’s institutional mission to empower Israel’s underserved
populations through increasing access to higher education
— in turn facilitating their gainful employment — represents
another key accomplishment of the outgoing Rector.
