First ever trip on Bikes
(Lahore - Jhelum -Rohtas-Mangla Dam)
by: Muhammad Izhar Ahmed
I incidentally gone through the threads of paki bikers and got some
courage to do it. Shared the idea with my friend Mudassar Niaz
in office who readily seconded it with value edition. He suggested
to avoid monotonous drive on G.T. Road and make our journey
informative and joyful by running alongside of different canals and
villages till Jhelum. This way we would be able to
visit syphon, barrage, link canals and rivers falling on
the route. Got raincoat, travel bag, few bike tools
etc. from market and ensured fitness of bikes
by replacing engine Oil, brakes etc.
Both of us started our journey from Lahore in
the morning on separate bikes and by approaching
first canal at Farooqabad turned the bikes against the
stream and said goodbye to National Highway. The
entire route till Jhelum was wonderful especially
the vast golden fields of wheat, the silence which we broke with roaring
CG-125 and CD-100 bikes. It was a wonderful experience which I
tried to capture in clicks but failed to pile purity, peace, simplicity and
our feelings at that moment. Reached Jhelum at 07:00pm and stayed
at Hotel. Second day visited Rohtas fort in the noon then moved to
Mangla Dam Lake where enjoyed mesmerizing sunset and returned to
Jhelum again. Third day started journey at 06:30 am on G. T. Road and
reached back to Lahore at 12:00 pm.
Since it was our first experience of biking so we learnt a lot to share
with others. First start your journey with
a good plan. Take small rest after covering
60-70 km in a stretch, as it is good for
you as well as for your bike. Avoid over
speeding even on empty road. Don’t
compromise on Tyre and Tube conditions.
Use helmet with good quality visor. Keep
CNIC, Driving License, Registration book etc. with yourself. Try
to get mobile charger install on your bike as mobile battery drains
quickly due to use of GPS, Internet, voice calls etc. Whereas due to
load shedding and other unforeseen reasons recharging may not be
possible.
