GRAMMAR NOTE Comparing Two or More Items
When comparing X and Y, the question word dochira or docchi “which
alternative of the two” is commonly used. In answering the question, the particle
-yori “rather than” and -hō “the alternative of Y out of the two” are commonly
used, but if the item X is clear from the context, you can omit it.
