Cue: Chūgoku-go, wakarimasu ka.
Do you understand Chinese?

Response: Mae wa yoku wakarimashita kedo, ima wa zenzen wakarimasen.
I used to understand it well before, but now I don’t understand it at
all.

Cue: Denwa, shimasu ka.
Do you make phone calls?

Response: Mae wa yoku shimashita kedo, ima wa zenzen shimasen.
I called a lot before, but now I don’t call at all.

Practice this drill with the following:
1. Manga, mimasu ka.
2. Supein-go benkyō-shimasu ka.
3. Shinbun yomimasu ka.
4. Pasokon, tsukaimasu ka.
5. Shigoto, shimasu ka.
* Repeat this drill by switching mae and ima (Past and Non-past):

Ima wa yoku wakarimasu kedo, mae wa zenzen wakarimasen deshita.
Now I understand it well, but I didn’t understand at all before.
