4 Foreign influence
The Tagalog language is full of loan words, the majority of which
are from Spanish and English. Because of loan words and the
official national language policy which allows the use of foreign
words in Tagalog, there is a tendency among Tagalog native
speakers, particularly in Manila, to speak in the slang language
known as Taglish (Tagalog + English) or Engalog (English +
Tagalog). The main features of this method of speaking are
words and phrases adapted from the different principal dialects
and foreign languages.
