The origins of the Museum of Fine Arts’ First floor
comprehensive collection date from 1870,
when the state bought a magnificent
collection of paintings from the artistocratic
Esterházy fam ily. The museum’s collection
was enriched by donations and acquisitions,
and in 1906 it moved to its present location.

Schickedanz, is Neo-Classical with Italian-
Renaissance influences. It depicts the Battle
of the Centaurs and Lapiths, and is copied The Water Carrier
from the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, Greece. (c. 1810)
La Aquadora demonstrates the
full range of Francisco de Goya’s
artistic talent.
The Fall of Man
(c. 1620)
The Flemish artist, Jacob Jordaens,
worked alongside van Dyck and
was Rubens’ principal associate.
