AUSTRALIAN RULES
At long last, e Strad has thrown o the tyrannous
shackles of New York and London and recognised that
a thriving concert scene exists in Berlin, Copenhagen and
most recently Zermatt (Reviews, January 2020). It seems
overdue for a truly international magazine to be spreading
its collective ears to further climes; though I notice the
focus is still Euro-centric. Perhaps in the future, the
magazine might be prevailed upon to review some of
the outstanding concerts in the southern hemisphere:
the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s season nale in ɗ !£-#38 !8=!@ labovem 2!1'& )89; $32$'8;1!9;'8

the Sydney Symphony, cellist Andreas Brantelid with the
Elgar Concerto at the same venue. All these sensational
performances occurred in the past couple of months –
isn’t it time the Antipodes had a fair slice of the pie?

PATRICIA NEWNHAM ¡ere is no room for ‘hate’ in the
world of music. ‘Disapproval’ yes, not hate.
VAL JASKIEWICZ Seems like snobbishness is still very much
a ‘family value’ in my beloved classical violin community.
