Yermak Timofeyevich’s men fighting at the Battle
ofChuvashCape(1582).Beginninghisexpedition
to Siberia in around 1579-81, Yermak and his
band of more than 800 men fought against
thousands of native Siberian Tatars, who
were defeated by superior firepower. The
Khanate of Sibir, led by Kuchum
Khan, fell shortly after
Yermak’s victory.
