A twenty-minute drive from Pakokku on the road to Monywa is Pakhangyi. In and
around this town you’ll find a nineteenth-century dark-wood monastery, scattered old
stupas and remnants of ancient walls that are slowly being gobbled up by vines and
creepers. A happy hour or so can be spent exploring the area and making exciting
discoveries.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE PAKOKKU
By minibus/pick-up Three minibuses (daily; 1hr) depart regular but slower and more uncomfortable pick-ups. Both
at 9am, noon and 3pm for Pakokku from Nyaung U, depart from close to Pakokku’s market area. There are also
dropping off near the market; alternatively, you can catch a buses here to Shwebo (daily; 6hr).
