Bustling street markets spill out onto 86th Street, while immediately to the south of
Zegyo, the Man Myanmar Shopping Plaza (84th St between 25th and 26th sts) offers
more of the same, but even more hectic.
Eindawya Pagoda

The most striking temple in central Mandalay, the Eindawya Pagoda is centred on a
glittering, gold-leaf-covered stupa. The temple was constructed in 1847 on the orders
of King Pagan Min, who was living in his summer house on this very site when he
ascended to the throne. The temple is also remembered for its role in the cultural
confrontations of the colonial era thanks to a famous incident in 1919 when a group
of Burmese – increasingly infuriated (along with most of the population) at the refusal
of foreigners to remove their footwear when entering local pagodas – attacked a group
