THE GRAND CANYON

COPPER CANYON, MEXICO Northern Mexico’s spectacular
Copper Canyon is deeper in parts than the Grand Canyon. The
Copper Canyon Railway, which climbs alongside the precipice
en route from Los Mochis to Chihuahua, affords fabulous views.
ZION CANYON, UTAH, USA Bryce’s near-neighbor is a pretty,
lush spot thanks to the Virgin River that flows through its center.
The canyon lacks the bizarre rock formations of Bryce, but
boasts magnificent red-rock cliffs and fine hiking trails.
WAIMEA CANYON, HAWAI‘I The so-called “Grand Canyon of
the Pacific,” which almost cuts the verdant island of Kaua‘i in
half, holds an amazing, ever-changing panoply of colors and
offers magnificent views out over the ocean.
CANYON DE CHELLY, ARIZONA, USA Canyon de Chelly,
another spellbinding red-rock canyon, is occupied by
indigenous Navajo farmers and filled with the evocative cliff
dwellings left by the Ancient Puebloan people of the region.
