THE OCEAN GANG
Lemon sharks are very social creatures.
In their first year, the young sharks grow up
in the safety of a nursery. By the time they
are two or three years old, they prefer to stay
with same-sex groups of similar ages and
spend much of their time in these gangs.
Living in groups provides protection from
bigger predators but it may also help sharks
find food and a mate. These gangs often
hang around fishing piers at night.
