EXPERIENCE Ontario Far more than just the political capital, Ottawa has a
vibrant mix of English- and French-speaking residents
and a striking combination of historic and modern
buildings, with plenty of attractions to keep visitors
busy. The core of the capital is relatively contained, and
many of the top sights around the Parliament Buildings
can be accessed on foot. Running south through the
city, the Rideau Canal is Ottawa’s recreation ground Canadian Parliament
year round, from boating and strolling during summer Buildings on a crisp
months to skating across its icy surface in the freezing winter’s day
Canadian winter.
The Parliament Buildings
(p210) are the seat of
government. A Changing of
the Guards ceremony takes
place outside the buildings
at 10am daily from late
June through late August.
