Södermalm & South of Söder
The Södermalm area, generally known as “Söder”, rises steeply
from the water and is something of a city in itself with its own
character, charm and dialect. The slopes are lined with old
wooden cottages with an un rivalled view of Stockholm. The
dramatic topography has provided some hilly parks, and
allotments are scattered among the built-up areas. The area
has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants and a lively nightlife,
as well as the latest in modern architecture. South of Söder is
Globen, a spectacular indoor arena, and Skogskyrkogården The towers of Mariaberget on a steep
Cemetery, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. hillside close to Slussen

Slussen’s intricate traffic system, opened in 1935 is in need of a thorough facelift.
