Urbino: Palazzo Ducale
Italy’s most beautiful Renaissance palace was built
for Duke Federico da Montefeltro, ruler of Urbino
(1444–82). He was a soldier, but also a man of the
arts, and his palace, with its library, paintings and
refined architecture, is a tribute to courtly life
and to the artistic and intellectual ideals of the
Renaissance. The Palazzo Ducale houses the
Galleria Nazionale delle Marche.
