         1 Oslo

Founded around 1048 by Harald Hardråde, Oslo is the oldest
of the Scandinavian capital cities and occupies an enormous
area, with about 1 million inhabitants. The heart of the city is
largely made up of late 19th- and early 20th-century
Neoclassical buildings, wide avenues, and landscaped parks.
The city center is compact and easy to explore on foot, and
most of the city’s sights are within walking distance of each Nordmarka
other. The city is a cultural hotspot, with a large number of
museums and art galleries. The Nordmarka area of
forests to the north of the center gives a glimpse of
         the beautiful Norwegian countryside. Majorstua
