352 SOUTHERN NE THERLANDS
Southern Netherlands
at a Glance
South of Holland’s great rivers lie the provinces of North
Brabant and Limburg, where industry and countryside
coexist in harmony, though the coal fields are long gone.
As with the rest of the Netherlands, eating and drinking
well are held in high regard here. Visitors to the Southern
Netherlands will also find cities with historical centres, such
as Den Bosch, Breda, Thorn and Maastricht; the beautiful
countryside of Kempen, Peel and the hills of Zuid Limburg;
thriving modern towns; and peaceful rural villages.
