Epic Hiking
In the hidden heights of
Corsica’s interior lies one of
the world’s most testing long-
distance mountain trails: the
GR20. This 180-km (112-mile)
hike follows the Continental

CORSICA FOR
THE GREAT
OUTDOORS
The first surprise for new visitors to Corsica is its diverse landscape. An
awesome backdrop of needle-like peaks, cleft valleys and almost-Alpine
plateaus makes it a wonderland for hikers, bikers, climbers and viewpoint
chasers. In the spaces between are quiet villages and gorgeous beaches.
Breathtaking Beaches
Many of Corsica’s loveliest
coves hide behind the island’s
rocky red calanques, the
sharply defined west coast
valleys that run down to the
sea. The easiest way to access
them is to go by kayak or boat,
hopping from bay to bay.
Discover golden sands around
Porticcio, excellent for snor-
kel ling in crystalline waters
and exploring rock pools.
On the east coast, head to
the St-Tropez-esque resort
of Porto-Vecchio (p549),
Inviting beaches and where the favourite beaches
turquoise waters for sun-worshippers include
at Palombaggia Palombaggia and Tamaricciu.
