Just as Star Wars itself was a
heady mash-up of different movie
genres, so the new wave of games
it’s inspired fall into a variety of
game genres. The new role-playing
game system even comes in
three strands: Force And Destiny,
for those who want to wield
lightsabers as Jedi and Sith; Age Of
Rebellion, for those who want to
get on the frontlines of the battle
against the Empire; and Edge Of
The Empire, for scoundrels who
game of rebels versus the Empire.

Fantasy Flight Games also
offers two different flavors of
miniature spaceship combat:

long-term strategic Armada. “It’s
really cool to be able to experience
the Star Wars setting in all these
different ways, with different
games emphasizing different parts
of the experience,” says Brooks.
Flights Of Fancy
When it comes to Star Wars, Fantasy
Flight Games always has its eye
on the future. As new movies are
released and new characters or
starships revealed, its games can be
adapted and expanded to encompass
them. “Destiny, X-Wing and Legion
are the kind of games which can be
evolved over time,” says Jarvis.
Brooks is very happy he’s fi nally
been able to add Clone Wars-era
starfighters to X-Wing, and has
cracked how to incorporate the Force
into their second edition system.
“So you’ll basically be able to play
the entire timeline,” he beams. “You
want to know if Darth Vader could
beat Kylo Ren in a dogfi ght? Well,
now you can try it out.”
As a keen Star Wars gamer,
Jarvis says he’d like to see a big
Rebellion-style game that takes
in the entirety of the new trilogy
once Episode IX is released, but
until then there’s plenty of life
left in Star Wars’ gaming galaxy,
through the way it’s experienced,
adapted, enjoyed, and played out
by thousands of gamers worldwide.
“Our games allow you to justify
playing with toys and telling stories
with them,” asserts Flugaur-Levitt.
“People might grow up, but we
retain our creative imagination.
Tabletop games let you express it.”
