WHAT A CHAMPION
ou probably don’t need your
favourite motorcycle magazine
pointing out the widespread
– and ongoing – devastation
Yfrom this season’s bushfires.
It’s truly awful. Some of you may have
been directly affected or know people
who have been. On behalf of everybody
here at MT, our thoughts are with you.
We’re working on doing more, too.
As motorcyclists and a brother/
sisterhood of riders, there are a few
things we can all do that others perhaps
can’t. Many local clubs, dealers,
businesses and Facebook groups are
organising group rides to raise funds
for various fire-relief charities and
organisations in need of support and
donations. Many of the rides are even
heading straight to bushfire-affected
areas to help rebuild and tip some
much-needed money back into the local
economies. All brilliant stuff.
Then there are the trailriders who are
clearing hazards in their beloved bush
and adventure riders like champion

into burnt areas off their own bat.
“Today’s mission was filling my
panniers with carrots and sweet
potatoes and hurling them like a
paperboy,” he said on a Facebook
group. “You can also get water into
existing stations. Talk to Hunter
Wildlife Bush Feeding Stations, on
how, what and where.”
Champo Randy rang for instructions
and then carried what he could manage
on his bike and also reported track
conditions, the Hunter Wildlife Bush
Feeding Stations Facebook page read.
If you’re interested in helping,
please be mindful of dangerous
conditions such as trees that may still
be burning, hot ash pits left by burnt
trees, road hazards and unstable trees
that may fall.
There are several coordinated relief
efforts throughout Australia that also
encourage participants to log GPS
coordinates of food and water stations.
Bureaucracy, BS and politics aside,
there’s nothing quite like the Aussie
spirit in times of crisis. Keep up the
great work, and all the best.
