               Haifa

Cascading down the slopes of Mount Carmel between Haifa Bay
and the Mediterranean, cosmopolitan Haifa is one of the world’s
loveliest port cities. The Baha’i Gardens offer stunning panoramas
of the German Colony’s 19th-century houses, Hadar’s Bauhaus
buildings, and the narrow lanes of the Arab neighborhood of Wadi
Nisnas. Sprinkled throughout are excellent museums, while at
the top of the hill, pine-shaded parks and
     upscale neighborhoods stretch along a
boulevard lined with cafés and restaurants.
