Galilee and the North

This is the greenest region of Israel,
with lush valleys and wooded hills.
Brimming with wild flowers in spring
and crisscrossed by hiking trails, it is
also a good place for horseback riding
and bird-watching. The sparkling Sea of
Galilee is a major draw, and Tiberias makes
Capital, Capernaum a good base for exploring sites central to
synagogue Jesus’ ministry. The region is steeped in
Jewish religious history too. The town of
Safed has winding streets and ancient synagogues, while the region’s
wealth of archeological sites – Caesarea, Beit She’an, and Tzipori
– is overwhelming. A visit to Akko is like stepping back in time, and
nearby Haifa is bright and bustling. The Golan Heights has spectac-
ular views, while majestic Mount Hermon has a winter ski slope.
