What was the
biggest dinosaur?
The fossil bones of the largest animal ever to
walk on land were unearthed in 2012. It is a type
of titanosaur that fossil hunters estimate weighed
69 tons (63 metric tons) and was 122 ft (37 m) long.
The dinosaur’s tail may have been
used for support as it reared up on
The its hind legs to reach tree branches.
titanosaur
was as long as
four buses and
weighed as much
as 12 African
elephants.
FAST FACTS
The new titanosaur was the biggest of a Human
family called the sauropods. Even one
of the smallest, Europasaurus, was
20 ft (6 m) long and weighed up Pliosaur
to 1.1 ton (1 metric ton).
Among the biggest
prehistoric beasts living
in the sea were pliosaurs.
The largest of these were
over 50 ft (15 m) long.
