Colourful crustaceans
The ‘praying
mantis’ of the sea
The skeleton shrimp gets its name
from its skeletal form. It has a
long slender body which only
measures up to four centimetres
(1.5 inches). These stick-shaped
crustaceans can be pale
brown, green or pink in colour
depending on the habitat they are
camouflaging themselves in, and
some species can change colour
too. Sometimes called the ‘praying
mantis’ of the sea, the shrimp
hunts like the insect.
