I then started to learn about the Michael J. Fox Foundation. It raises
hundreds of millions of dollars for groundbreaking research and also helps
people like me who don’t know where to go when a loved one is diagnosed.
I became a board member and hosted my first Parkour for Parkinson’s
fundraiser in 2018, raising close to $100,000. Today my dad is doing fine.
He had DBS surgery [Deep Brain Stimulation, which implants a device that
sends electrical signals to brain areas responsible for body movement] and
doesn’t take nearly as much medicine as he used to. As Michael told me,
he doesn’t want his foundation running for a long time. The goal is to find
