STORY
ABOVE A fledgling struggles to perch on
a branch next to its mother. After hanging
upside down like a bat for about 10
minutes, the youngster sat upright. It will
be cared for and fed by both parents up
to two months after leaving the nest.
RIGHT Due to a mild winter, the Ural
owls started nesting very early in
southern Estonia in 2017. Therefore, by
the middle of May, this fledgling was
surveying its new territory and leaping
between fallen down tree trunks to
reach a high perch for the night.
