Cows are ruminants. This means they chew cud,
which is partially processed food. A cow typically
spends eight hours a day grazing, eight hours chew-
ing cud, and eight hours resting and sleeping.
Cows have four stomach compartments: the
rumen, the reticulum, the omasum, and the aboma-
sum. When a cow eats, the partially ground-up food
