CONVERGING VERTICALS
In photos, vertical lines on a building that should look parallel often
appear to converge toward a distant point. This usually happens
when a camera is pointed upward to fit a building into the frame.
Converging verticals can be used deliberately, to create a dramatic
effect. What does not work, however, is when they look like a mistake.
Boldness is the key to making the effect look deliberate.
THE RESULT ▼ WITHOUT SHIFT LENS
In the final photo taken using the tilt-shift lens, the vertical lines of the
building are parallel to each other, making it seem as if you are looking
at it head-on. In the photo taken without a shift lens, you are aware of
looking upward as the verticals are converging.
