Between 1962 and 1978, this secret Soviet rocket site,
with its recently patched up silos, aimed missiles at cities
                                  in Western Europe.

                                     Folk Legends of Lake Plateliai
Lake Plateliai had tremendous significance to the
pagans of the historical regions of Samogitia and
Žemaitija. Drownings occasionally occur here and
according to one of the many legends associated
with the lake, a great white horse lives in the water
and takes the life of at least one swimmer every year.
Plunge The water level has risen in recent times and
archaeologists diving in the lake have excavated
standing stones with pagan symbols under the
surface. To this day, Plateliai, on the lake’s western
Yacht moored along the shore of shore, celebrates many colourful traditional
                     Lake Plateliai Samogitian festivals.
