      Bald animals

We expect mammals to look furry, and most of

them do. Among the exceptions with bald or nearly

bald skin are, of course, humans. Some hairless

animals, such as certain breeds of cats and dogs,

or even guinea pigs, are popular pets.

       Bald uakari
The bare, bright-red face of this
       bald-headed South American monkey
shows that the animal is healthy. If it
was sickly, it would look much paler.
The bald uakari lives in the treetops
       of Amazonian rainforests.

                               Sphynx cat
The first sphynx kittens were born
by chance to cats with normal fur,
but now they are specially bred.
Sphynxes have fine, soft fuzz on
              their bodies, but no whiskers.
