Just a Feeling…

It is a lazy morning of April; mangoes in groves are taking their shape. The hibiscus, jasmine and yellow

roses are in vibrant hues. A strange mix of fragrances becomes an attraction for bees. Guava, custard

apple and berry loaded plants are making the garden eye-catching for the birds. Water level of wells is

going down. Parrots, woodpeckers, crow pheasants along with humming birds visit my garden in their

usual routine. Their morning carol is not less than hymns to the Lord. Hearing the birds chirping, wife

throws a handful of grain in the courtyard for the sparrows early in the morning. Their twittering is found

unusual today. My son Om told me that something was wrong with them. I took his word very casually.

He immediately brought an old earthen jar from the store room, washed it in the tap water. The maid

chided him and complained that the kid was destroying the jar used to store fried lentil. The boy of twelve

ignored it. He filled water in the earthen jar and placed it at the north-east corner of the courtyard. The

sparrows sat on the edge of the jar in a circle. Om watched them enjoy their drink. Parrots were looking at

the jar from the guava trees, perhaps awaiting their turn. I sipped a cup of tea without sugar but it tasted

              great!
