Her Poetry Route and Roots

Roula Pollard claims her gift to write Poetry from a power beyond and above her, its strength and vitality spring undoubtedly from divine providence. Her
studies in Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature, Greek History and Archaeology, B.A, Athens University and M.A. in classics at Leeds University, was just a
training to understand literature. But writing and understanding the essence of life rooted in Poetry, it is not for her a formula based on rules, it comes from the
deepest unfathomable spring of life, its inner purpose and mission. She claims her poetry from the deepest springs of Goodness and truth which is inside, above
and beyond her understanding and she tries to trace it as in a vision revealed gradually to her. Her country of birth, Greece, played a vital part in her poetic
development, especially its ancient Poetry History ranging from the times of Homer, the 11th century BC and the long Poetry tradition existing long before the
Father of Western Poetry wrote his masterpieces. She claims her poetry from the perfection of the Greek landscape since antiquity, 15th centuries BC, from the
volcanic island of her birth , Santorini, from the multitude shades of blue sky and sea colors, from the brightness of the Greek sun awakening the mind, as if it
were created now directly from the hands of God. She also claims her Poetry from her family's deep roots in the Poetry tradition and teaching from 1815
onwards, generation after generation up to now. She claims her poetry from the hard work she puts in and developed her personal style through the decades to her
own way of life. She claims her Poetry to the endless adventure and experiences of her life and full involvement in the sanctity of life since the age of 5, at a time
when her first experiences registered strong and somehow miraculously. She claims her Poetry from the fact that she decided long before she could logically
