She relayed the information to the crew back on the Veklaar and she and the other two women
made their leave of the Monks and found another bar in a Casino, for a few more final drinks before
heading back to the landers.
About two days later Jenifer was summoned to the Captain’s ready room. Krysta and Trok
were looking over some scans from the previous She’brakda expedition. They were attempting to
match locations with recent scans made by a drone craft sent to survey the area prior to the Veklaar
team arriving.
“That area there looks more like the original site but these areas have changed almost beyond
recognition” Trok was saying as she entered “We’ll need to uncover a lot of debris and rubble” he
continued.
“I agree; the whole area must have been hit by a series of quakes or something. I noticed that only
the non-monolithic constructions have fallen, and those are mostly the local sandstone ones” Krysta
commented “Ah; Jennifer, have a look. I’ll put in the coordinates our Monk friend gave us and we’ll
see what’s changed” she added, and inputted some data into the console. The scene on the viewer
shifted. The image showed the same area but dramatically changed.
“Is that sand covering the ruins?” Jennifer
asked.
“It would appear so, though the desert area is
over thirty kilometres further south and the
wind direction of the local storms doesn’t
account for the amount that’s drifted in. We
can only assume that the weather has more
violent cycles than those recorded by
previous expeditions” Trok replied. He
zoomed in on the image to show a round
structure. “There are a number of these
dotted around the complex. They appear to
be filled with water. Public wells or fountains perhaps?” he added.
“We’ll make that our starting point and see if we can unearth the gates the old Monk mentioned. If
the Glyphs are as he described; then it’s a fair assumption they could be Kryst” Krysta said. She
pressed a button on the internal coms unit. “Luther; what’s our arrival time in the She’brakda
sector?” she asked of the young Navigator.
“Two weeks four days at our new full speed. The tweaks that our Buraxin engineer has made gave us
a three hundred per cent boost!” the young man said in reply. Krysta stroked her chin.
“Krysta; if we get there earlier, we can take advantage of the moon’s eccentric orbit to give us more
time before the “High Summer”” Jennifer offered
“I was thinking just that. Luther; go to full thrust and take the shorter route!” Krysta barked at the
coms.
“That’s rather reckless, remember the Gravity Occlusion is in that vicinity” Trok said worriedly.
“T’luha is not just any engineer; she’s the foremost authority in Shield and gravity dynamics, as well
as the Unity’s finest mind on Space-Time Theory of Fold Transition” Krysta said in response. Trok and
Jennifer both showed a look of surprise. “She has an idea how to avoid the worst of the effects” she
finished.
